helpNhelper connects donors, volunteers and people in need across Bangladesh. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website, why we need it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and/or mobile number, and your password (stored only in hashed, unreadable form — nobody at helpNhelper can see it).
- Verification details: if you sign up as someone seeking help, a volunteer or an organization, we ask for what we need to check who you are: an ID document (such as your NID), a photo, your address and area, a Facebook profile link for volunteers, and registration details and certificates for organizations. Corporate donors give their company name and designation.
- Applications for help: the details, photos and documents you send us about your situation.
- Donations: the name and phone number you enter, the amount, the campaign and the date. Payments are handled by our payment gateway, SSLCommerz: we never see or store your card number, PIN or mobile banking password — we only receive a transaction number and whether the payment went through.
- Messages you send us through the contact form.
- Technical information: our servers keep short-term logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure and working. We may use privacy-friendly visitor statistics that count visits without identifying you.
How we use it
- To run your account and log you in, including sending one-time codes by SMS or email.
- To process donations and send your receipt by email or SMS.
- To check applications for help — a volunteer or our team may visit or contact you — and to publish approved cases as campaigns.
- To keep accurate financial records, prevent fraud and meet our legal obligations.
- To answer your questions and tell you how a case you're involved in is progressing.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
What is shown publicly
- We don't publish donors' names or contact details on the website.
- If your application for help becomes a campaign, its story and photos are published with your agreement. Your ID documents and contact details are never published.
- Volunteers' names and photos may appear on the volunteer pages and leaderboard.
Who we share it with
- SSLCommerz, to take payments.
- Our SMS and email providers, to deliver codes, receipts and updates.
- Volunteers assigned to a case, who see only the details they need to visit and verify it.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
These providers may use your information only to provide their service to us.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies: one keeps you logged in, and one remembers your language. See our Cookie Policy for details.
How long we keep it
- Donation and financial records are kept for as long as accounting and legal rules require.
- Account and verification details are kept while your account is open, and afterwards for as long as needed to settle any case or query.
- Server logs are deleted after a short period.
How we protect it
The site uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections, passwords are stored hashed, and only authorised staff can see verification documents. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell affected users if a serious breach happens.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account. Some records, such as completed donations, must be kept for accounting even after an account is deleted. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Children
Accounts are meant for adults. Information about a child — for example, in a medical campaign — is published only with the agreement of a parent or guardian.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For important changes, we'll also let account holders know.
